The G Line, part of the light rail system operated by the Regional Transportation District in the Denver-Aurora Metropolitan Area in Colorado, was added to the system on November 17, 2006, with the completion of the Southeast Corridor project (the "T-Rex Project"). It is one of four routes that are part of the RTD's service plan for the corridor. It is the only line in TheRide not serving downtown Denver.
The G Line's northern terminus is at Nine Mile Station in Aurora on the I-225 branch of the system, while its southern terminus is at Lincoln Avenue Station in Lone Tree. The G Line is one of very few tangential ("suburb to suburb") rail transit lines in the United States.
According to a map in the RTD's service plan for the corridor,[citation needed] the G Line's color is brown. In August 2007, night, Saturday, Sunday and holiday service on this route was discontinued due to low ridership. An exception is the lone northbound Owl service trip on weekend and holiday mornings. The owl train traverses both the E & H Lines by way of the G Line link.
Despite the low ridership on the initial segment, the line's popularity is expected to increase with the completion of Fastracks' I-225 corridor. The completion of the corridor will link the South Metro area to Denver International Airport via the East Corridor line, all while bypassing the congested city core. It is expected to be complete in 2016.[citation needed]
